Malachi 2:17-3:6

The Lord will SEND A MESSENGER

  1. ‘My Messenger’ – fulfilled in JOHN THE BAPTIST
  2. ‘Messenger of the Covenant’ – fulfilled in JESUS CHRIST
  3. Jesus Christ came the first time to die as a suffering servant, offering His life and His shed blood as payment for our sins
  4. Jesus Christ will come a second time, not to die, but to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords – Acts 1: 9-11; Revelation 19: 11-16

The Lord will PURIFY

  1. Refiner’s FIRE
  2. Launderers bleach

The Lord will JUDGE

  1. The Bible speaks of two coming judgments:
    1. The great WHITE THRONE judgement – Revelation 20: 11-15
      1. All of humanity who has rejected Christ will stand before God’s throne in judgement.  The result of this judgment will be eternal condemnation.
    2. The judgment seat of CHRIST – 2 Corinthians 5: 6-10; 1 Corinthians 3: 1-15
      1. All followers of Christ will stand before Him and give an ACCOUNT of our life’s work
      2. We will be REWARDED accordingly or we will suffer the loss of reward accordingly – Revelation 22: 12; 1 Corinthians 3: 8; 1 Corinthians 3: 14-15

Jesus promised His followers that the cost of discipleship will be offset by the  of the reward the disciple enjoys in heaven.
