Avoiding Sloppy Worship

Malachi 4: 1-6

  1. A day UNLIKE any other – v. 1-3
    1. This day will come like a THIEF IN THE NIGHT’
    2. On that day God will render judgment against the UNGODLY and sentence them to eternal condemnation
      1. In love God has PROVIDED a way for the ungodly to come to Him; in justice God has rendered judgment against the sin of the UNGODLY – God has accomplished this through the person and work of Jesus Christ
    3. On that day all those who have a personal relationship with God will be delivered from eternal CONDEMNATION and will enter into His presence for all of eternity.
  2. PREPARE for the Day of the Lord – v. 4-6
    1. Remember the instruction of Moses – remember the WORD OF GOD
      1. Malachi was calling Israel to a lifestyle guided not by human WISDOM, human ambition, or cultural expectations but by the understanding and APPLICATION of God’s Word
      2. If we are going to FAITHFULLY follow God in a close and PERSONAL relationship then we must stay in God’s Word
    2. Remember the STANDARD of judgement. Hebrews 4: 12
      1. God’s WORD is the standard
    3. Remember to be READYMatthew 24: 42; 1 Peter 4: 7; Titus 2: 11-13

Day of the Lord – before God returns to issue judgment against the ungodly and to bring the godly into His presence for all of eternity He will continue to send His messengers to PLEAD with mankind to submit and surrender to Him in a personal FAITH relationship
